The Calgary Flight Training Centre is committed to excellence in training tomorrow’s aviators.
The Private Pilot License is the entry license. An applicant must be 14 years old to start training and 17 to be licensed and pass a minimum category 3 medical. The training may take from 3-6 months to complete depending on the availability of the student. Upon completion of the license you will be able to fly passengers in any single engine non-high performance aircraft anywhere in the world, under day VFR conditions*. You may not however fly for hire.
The Commercial Pilot License is required to work as a pilot. An applicant must already hold a Private Pilot License and pass a minimum category 1 medical. The Commercial Pilot training can take 6-12 month to complete depending on the availability of the student to study for the written exam and complete the time build-up to 200 hours as required by Transport Canada. Upon completion you will be a licensed commercial pilot and will be able to fly for reward by day or night in VFR conditions* on single engine aircraft.
A Recreational Pilot Permit is the most basic permit available and it is not a license due to the restrictions that accompany it. An applicant must be 16 years of age to receive the permit and pass a minimum category 4 medical. The training will take 2-4 month to complete. Upon obtaining your permit, you may only fly in Day VFR conditions* with one passenger and will be limited to Canadian airspace only while enjoying the privilege of flying a maximum of a four seater aircraft that you could own or rent.
A Multi-Engine Rating is required to fly multi-engine aeroplanes. It can be endorsed on a Private or Commercial Pilot License. An applicant must already hold a Private Pilot License. The training may take 2-4 weeks to complete. And an applicant may challenge the flight test at anytime. CFTC is in the process of acquiring a Piper Seminole as our training platform.
An Instrument Rating is required to fly in IFR conditions. This rating can be acquired on a single engine or multi-engine airplane. An applicant must hold a private pilot license. Private Pilot or Commercial Pilot license to start the training. CFTC has recently acquired a limited motion simulator made by Red Bird with the Seminole platform for the IFR training.
* Visual flight rules (VFR) are a set of regulations which allow a pilot to operate an aircraft in weather conditions generally clear enough to allow the pilot to see where the aircraft is going.
